An Operational Concern: Presidents, Vice Presidents, Managers

In IR#3, Resources were “things” people used when working hard to get the job done.

In IR#4, Resources are “Sources of Power”.

“Sources of Power” are physical locations such as people, raw materials, manufactured materials, tools, money, knowledge and services,

… from which businesspeople and businesses can accumulate superior competitive capabilities to fulfill their financial, career and business intentions.

Because businesspeople use computers and the internet, their ability to buy, use and sell different resources has changed and continues to change throughout the day, every day.

And, once businesspeople begin to use Resources as a “Source of Power” they open new possibilities to work with different:

Forms of Power

These are the skills or practices to fulfill competitive intentions that businesspeople learn, design and use with their computers and the internet the Resources make possible

Categories of Power

These are groupings of different capabilities such as finance, accounting, law or sales, in which “Sources of Power” are often located

Operations of Power

These are different philosophies, principles, laws and mechanisms at work and that businesspeople exploit to increase their competitive capabilities so that they can fulfill their intentions

Methods of Accumulating Power

These are different practices businesspeople use to learn to increase their strategic and competitive knowledge as well as their competitive capabilities and advantages using Sources of Power

Resources are “financial” because they are used to increase productivity, value and incomes.

They are “strategic” because they make it possible to execute, improve and design fresh, new action plans.

They are “competitive” because they enable businesspeople to increase their relative capabilities to produce highly valued and scarce marginal utilities.
